Miss Michigan Kirsten Haglund was crowned the new Miss America 2008.
Kristen, the 19-year-old winner of Miss America pageant is this year’s youngest contestant and was beating out 51 other contestants.
She beat the first runner up, Miss Indiana Nicole Elizabeth Rash and the second runner up Miss Washington Elyse Umemoto for the $50,000 scholarship and year of travel that comes with the crown.

The Miss America Organization has undergone a rapid change in the past six months. Ms. Carlson was named chairwoman in January, and several women were appointed to the organization’s highest ranks. The Miss America contest is killing the swimsuit petition from future editions and vowing to rule out physical appearance as a criterion for judging a winner, the organization announced Tuesday. Clinton County, Mikhayla Hughes-Shaw, was crowned Iowa 2018. Mikhayla attended the University of Iowa where she received a Bachelor of the Arts, Journalism and Mass munication; Certificate in Critical Cultural petence.
